This weekend we decided to go to Savognin for their season opening. We arrived on Saturday morning to find a very overcast sky, some fresh snow and not many people. Up on the pistes the visibility was very poor, at some times we could barely see the next marker pole for the ski piste or the chair in front of us when on the lift. Due to the poor visibility they only had three lifts open and the only run was mainly on artificial snow so it felt quite icy despite it being the first day of the season. Even though conditions were not ideal the area gave us a good impression so we decided to stay overnight at the Cube Hotel to see what Sundays weather would bring.

Sunday started overcast, but with much higher cloud then the day before. We got up early and took the first lift up in the morning before breakfast. Visibility was much improved allowing us to see alot more of what the resort offered. We were not disappointed either. Many more pistes with endless opportunities for riding between them and enjoying some powder turns.

As the day progressed things just got better and better, the clouds broke and soon we were enjoying uncrowded on and off-piste runs in the early winter sunshine. Savognin proved to be a really nice resort. It has 80km of pistes when it is fully open and offers amazing views of the valley up towards Julier pass. The skiing/snowboarding is very suited to intermediate skiers with all the runs being either blue or red. The resort does not have any black runs. This was our first time in Savognin, and I think we will definitely be going back again in the near future.
