Day 5: Gornergrat
Day 5 dawned with a perfect blue sky, breakfast was quickly disposed of (a bit too quickly for one of us!) and then it was off to the train station to get our bag sent to Bettmeralp and get on the train up to Gornergrat. There were a lot less people on the train and at Gornergrat this time compared to the last time I was up there. It allowed us a little time to enjoy the view before heading off down the trail.
Descending further and crossing the railway lines we dropped into the woods and enjoyed another really nice section of trail before getting to the town in Zermatt.
Our plan was to keep riding down past Tasch on singletrail but unfortunately one of our group wasn’t feeling too good so instead we cut the day short and got on a train to Bettmeralp.
Day 5-8: Aletsch Region
We had a few plans for the last part of the trip. The initial plan was to do a day ride near the Aletsch and Fiescher Glaciers, then the next day do the trails on Nuffenen and Gothard passes before taking a bus to the top of Klausenpass and riding down to Linthal via Braunwald. Unfortunately the logistics would not work to send our bags ahead of us for this part of the route so we decided to spend a few days exploring the Aletsch region instead and come back another time to work out the logistics for the Nuffenen/Gothard/Klausen route.
With three days to play around in the Aletsch area we got to ride a lot of the trails. Every trail we rode seemed to be better then the previous one and even though we felt like doing every trail again once we finished it we managed to keep on going and try another one most of the time. (A couple of trails did have to be ridden a second time though!).
Enjoy the pictures.
