Just as there was another small snowfall in Zurich this morning I think its time to pack away the skis for the season. Its been a pretty epic one, 36 days on the snow, 20+ powder days, 17 different areas. The last day of the season was a trip to Lenzerheide where we skied Alp Sanaspans and did one of the wider couloirs under Rothorn. In the morning the snow was quite icy on the east facing slopes but still very nice on the north west facing sections and in the couloirs. After about midday the it became a slushfest below 2500m.

Looking back up at Rothorn on the way down to Alp Sanaspans. The avalanche appears to have been a small spontaneous wet snow slide from the afternoon before.

Plenty more evidence of wet snow Avalanches everywhere we looked.

Looking back up one of the wider couloirs under Rothorn after we rode down it.
It was a fitting day to end the season. I had been looking at the various lines down from Rothorn for many years and always wanted to do them. Finally getting there and having the confidence in my own ability to be able to pull it off was a great feeling. My learning curve was just as steep this year as it was last year, mainly due to being able to ski with friends who are much more advanced then me and who had the patience to help me out when the going got tough.
Its now time to turn our attention to two wheeled Alpine fun. The high Alpine trails are all still under snow, but the snowline is receding quickly and we can ride up to about 1200m without too many problems. I was up to 1150m on the bike yesterday and had snow free trails almost all the time.

The snow can now only be seen on the tops of the mountains over 1200m.
