Its been three weeks since I wrote anything here. The weather has been quite changeable and for a while I even though the best of ski season was over. Two weeks ago we planned a ski tour in Graubunden but the avalanche risk was too high for the tour planned so we ended up back in Pischa Freeriding again. We had about 20cm of fresh snow and perfect sunshine. At the higher altitudes the snow was great, but once we dropped below about 2000m the snow was quite wet and heavy. Two days later we had double digit temperatures down in Zurich and biking started to take precedence over skiing.

A few trips out on the mountain bike and I was starting to almost think I’m ready for winter to be over. Thoughts of heading south of the Alps to do some trail riding in Ticino until Saturday morning a sudden snow storm hit Zurich, brought the traffic in the area to a standstill, caused over 100 road traffic accidents and dumped 45cm of powder in the mountains!!!

The weather forecast was not great for Sunday but a friend called and we figured we’d head into the mountains and see how it was anyway.

The first run up on the lift was like Christmas. Hardly any tracks, steel blue sky, barely any people and the promised 45cm of fresh powder. Dropping in on the first run was amazing. Deep powder with a really good consistency turn after turn led to face shot after face shot. We could hardly control ourselves from yelping for joy as we made our way back down to the lift to do it all again.

Now I want to put bike season on hold and get a few more powder days in again. It doesn’t really matter though its a win win situation. If the snow melts, biking starts, snow keeps coming more amazing powder days.
