A few years back I was riding in Engadin with a friend. We had planned a big day which included some trails we had done before and a new trail we’d heard about but never ridden. The new trail was 13km long and descended 1300m with some amazing terrain. Both of us burst out the bottom of the trail with the biggest grins and started texting our mates to tell them we’d just ridden the best trail in the world… ever!
Shoot forward to this weekend, The plan was to ride some new trails in the area between Lake Zurich and Zug, we had a bit of a climb to get to the ridge-line where the trail was, but when we got there we found a trail that threw so much at us. Steeps (both up and down), switchbacks, roots, fast flowy bits, tricky technical bits everything you could ask for. As I dropped into a section of the trail one of my friends shouted out… “This is the best trail in the world… EVER!” A different trail, a different person… but hey this is Switzerland there are so many amazing trails anyone might just find their very own “best trail in the world… EVER!”.
After the excitement of that trail we rode back up past the start of it and rode an old favourite near Aegeri before climbing up the back of Zugerberg and riding another really nice varied trail down to Zug.
A day of close to 50km with 1400m of climbing thrown in for good measure. We were all tired and well happy with another amazing day in the hills.
Sunday had a lot to live up to after Saturdays epic. I met some friends in Pfaffikon SZ and we did the 700m climb up Etzel. The view from the top is usually stunning, but today was a little hazy so we just had a quick drink and got on the trail down. The effort of the climb was more then rewarded with a really nice trail the whole way back down to Pfaffikon again. This is another trail that offers pretty much everything you want and can be done in a few hours. Its definitely a trail that is going to be ridden on some of the longer summer evenings.
I was having so much fun getting pushed by one of my friends that I totally forgot to take any pictures so I guess I’ll have to go back up again very soon to get some photos of the trail.
