Date(s) - 26 Feb - 27 Feb
6:00 am - 4:00 pm
Many people dream about the adventure of packing your rucksack with everything you need and travelling from hut to hut in the mountains for a few days. Multi-day tours like the Haute Route romanticise this, but they are also very difficult in their own right and provide the participants with a considerable challenge.
This weekend is a little taster of doing a “Hütten Tour” to whet the appetite and get a manageable introduction into multi-day ski touring.
The Kesch Hut nestles between two ridges in a high alpine valley between Davos and the Engadin valley. The hut is surrounded by many peaks in excess of 3000m and sits at 2628m which allows you to enjoy a night in the high mountains with plenty of tour options when getting into and back out of the hut.
The Hut can be accessed from all sides and the exact route in and out will be decided by the guide in the week before the tour based on the current weather and avalanche conditions.
Who is this for?
This event is for those who are somewhat used to doing full-day ski tours. You will need to be comfortable with our normal Saturday ski tours and be able to do approximately 1200m of ascent at a pace of 350m/h and be able to descend in mixed terrain off-piste to safely attend this weekend.
Two weeks before the event you will receive the final event details along with your packing list. The location of the meeting point will be given approximately 48 hours before the tour. The tour may start from a different location depending on the prevailing conditions on the weekend.
It may be best to travel by public transport or carpooling depending on the conditions. You will meet your guide on the Saturday morning and either skin over a pass or one of the local peaks before descending to the Hut (possibly with a short second ascent somewhere along the way).
On day two you will leave the hut early to climb one of the surrounding peaks before descending the whole way to the valley (possibly with a second ascent somewhere along the way). Each day will involve approximately 1000 to 1300m of ascent with Saturday having more ascent than descent and Sunday having more descent than Ascent.
