There is a Swiss expression “April, April macht was er will” (April does whatever it wants) and as I type this, it seems that is certainly the case. We were basking in 20 degrees and sunshine last weekend and today there is 10cm of new snow down here at the lower altitudes.
The good weather is almost certainly just around the corner and it’s time to make plans for enjoying the long summer days in the great outdoors. We’ve got a full calendar already and we are still hoping that some of you will come on board and help us get a few more community events on the calendar in the coming months.
Our usual MTB courses (Beginner/Intermediate and Improver) are already available for sign-up on our website along with a number of MTB weekends distributed throughout the summer. This year we return to Leukerbad after a few year’s absence and also include our old favourite destinations of Val Mustair, Engadin and Verbier to the programme. Check out our events page for more information. We’d love some more MTB events on the calendar so if you feel like organising a day tour or after-work ride feel free to get in touch.
As in the last few years we have also a number of watersports events on the calendar for this coming summer. Our windsurfing taster sessions, beginner courses, improver courses and rental sessions are already available for booking for the first part of the summer and we will be posting those for the second half of the summer into autumn as soon as possible. Further events for sailing and SUP (if there is interest) are also in planning.
One completely new event is the Windsport Days, which we are organising in collaboration with a number of local partners. This event will be held on the 14th and 15th of May in Oberaegeri and will involve taster sessions, equipment exhibitions, demos, and info stands about windsports in Switzerland. You can just come by on the weekend and enjoy some time at the beautiful Aegerisee or take part in one of the taster sessions. The Saturday morning taster session will be run in English and is reserved for Swiss Alpine Adventure members.
Sign up for the SAA Taster session can be found here. Further information about the Windsport Days can be either found on the Windsport Days (german) website or on the Swiss Alpine Adventure (english) site.
We are currently planning the high alpine events for this summer. In previous years we have done 1st 4000er events, glacier trekking, and training events for glacier travel. Right now we are trying to gauge the interest that there might be this summer. If high alpine events interest you please let us know what type of events might interest you either by email or by adding to our forum post here.
As usual, we’d love to get some of you on board to organise some Afterwork or one-day MTB events or some sociable hikes during the summer months. Check out the members area of the forum for further information. (Must be logged in).
We are of course always interested in feedback on how to improve Swiss Alpine Adventure for everyone. Looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully seeing you enjoying the Swiss Outdoors in the coming summer months.
